Fundraising at the Lord Nelson
19th Dec 2007£2,454 for GBC Open Day Charities

The Hunter twins 3 bars were part of this year's very successful GBC Open Day in 2007. They have successfully raised money for charity for a number of years, initially for Local Children In Care, then The Gibraltar Society For Cancer Relief before joining in with the GBC Open Day event for the last 2 years.

Andy thanked their customers who turned out in great numbers for the day, Lewis Stagnetto Ltd and Anglo Hispano Ltd who supported our efforts and also to the following musicians who played for charity during the evenings celebrity jam at the Lord Nelson, Adrian Pozo, Guy Palmer, Nolan Frendo, Gavin Garcia, Chipi, Luke Bossano, Adrian Pisarello & Laurie.

The twins have agreed to join GBC Open Day event on 17th December 2008 when their latest venture O'Reilly's Irish Bar, Leisure Island Ocean Village will also participate in the fundraising.

1st Dec 2004£1,415 For Children In Care

John and Andy Hunter, Directors of the Star Bar and Lord Nelson, have expressed their thanks to all those who contributed to the success of their charity day on 1st December. The amount raised this year was £1,415, which exceeded last year's total of £1,234. All proceeds go to the Local Children in Care Charity, in order to make their Christmas a little brighter. Andy said "I would like to give a big thank you to Anglo Hispano Ltd, Lewis Stagnetto Ltd, our customers and our staff who worked together to ensure we did our bit once again this year for some of the most deserving memebers of our community. Everyone who contributed can have the satisfaction of knowing that they have made a difference this year."

Fellow Director John Hunter was equally enthusiastic and said "Considering the day was overcast and there weren't quite as many people around as we expected the generosity of the public ensured we broke last years total which is fantastic. Even though the Government does a wonderful job helping the kids we like to think we can give them that little bit extra."

Half the takings from both businesses were donated and in the evening Gibraltar's muicians laid on an outstanding four hours of music which was one of the factors enabling last years total to be beaten. James Martin, who handles the entertainment at the Nelson also expressed his thanks to the Rock's musical community: "I invited as many as I could to attend but even I was staggered at the response. We had around 40 musicans turn up and they were, as we promised ,the creme de la creme of the Rock's talent. We could barely fit them all in. It would be impossible to mention everyone's names but I would like to express our thanks to Tito Chipolina who ensured it all ran smoothly. We are grateful to them all for contributing to the day's success."

The moneys raised were handed over the following day to John Cruz from the local charity Children In Care, the money will be used towards making this Christmas just a little more special for these children.
